Cheap and Dirty

14 07 2007

So this may end up being a cheap and dirty post. I found this article [link] to be interesting, though I have to say that “1 in 3 IKEA customers say they get more satisfaction from cleaning out their closets than from having sex” is maybe a bit hard to believe. Maybe they don’t have sex to begin with?

For the past 2 weeks I have been working on a presentation for a ultra-luxe resort in the Carribean. It’s pretty awesome. The client basically purchased over half of the island and is developing all of it. I sat in on the presentation earlier this week. I think it went very well. It will be huge if the firm gets the project. It kind of makes me want to hold off on grad school just so I can work on this project. That’s bad, right?

My mom got a puppy about a week and a half ago. Her name is Lily. She looks adorable.

UPDATE:  Last night at dinner, somewhere between 2 glasses of sangria and a basket full of tortilla chips, I realized that if I were a character from Sex and the City I would probably be Charlotte.  On a scale of 1 to 10, with 10 being “big sissy queen,” the fact that such a thought even crossed my mind probably makes me an 8.  I’m so gay.  Seriously though, I am so a Charlotte.

You can make your own Simpson’s character.  I made this one of Saul. This is going to be a great movie [link].

UPDATE: Seven Eleven has converted several stores to Kwik-E-Marts [link]. They are selling Squishees and Krusty-O’s, to name a few. I love it.

I am writing this post using Safari 3 Beta for Windows, and it works EXTREMELY well.  I am always wary of beta software, except when it comes from Apple.  It always seems to work without any sort of a hitch.  Just goes to show that it is possible to write good, stable software.  Microsoft should take note (link).  Except I don’t think Java is fully functioning yet…

I’ve been on hiatus for the past couple of days with graduation and getting ready to move back to Atlanta for the summer. I will post more later. For now, here’s some pictures from date night yesterday (link).

Web 2.0: My (not so) secret addiction?

29 05 2007

So I signed up for two more web services this weekend, goodreads and stikkit. Goodreads is another social networking site based on the books you read. It’s kind of like Last.fm but for books. You can view people who have read similar books, get recommendations and read reviews of books. Stikkit is really cool though. It’s kind of an online note-taking app. Think of it as smart sticky notes that recognize dates and addresses and tries to make life easier. It looks like it could be really useful for group collaboration and such.

Expect invites from me to both of these services soon (you know who you are). Am I getting out of hand?

I love 1950s Design

17 05 2007

I’m sitting in my millwork class. We are learning about plastic laminates. I was surprised when the professor, a man in his late-50′s, brought up flickr on the big screen and started showing photos that he found of the Wilson House. He is more hip and internet savvy than I would have guessed. Of course, being nosey as I am, I went to the site and found the photos he was showing the class and stumbled upon his Flickr account. Sadly, he doesn’t have any photos posted. He did comment on several photos of another user though they are too ambiguous to make any kind of conclusions.

In case you were wondering, the Wilson House was built in the 1950′s by the founder of Wilsonart Laminate Co. It was built primarily to experiment different applications of plastic laminate. Here’s some photos. I love 1950′s design. It’s simple and modern, but fun and warm at the same time. I love the use of colors. A lot of 1950′s furniture pieces seem to be designed with a heavy emphasis on usability. It’s “form follows function” at its best.

There is a girl in this class who I find kind of annoying solely based on her disposition. She shows up anywhere between 30 to 60 minutes late to class everyday. The class is only a hour and a half long. She’s lame.

There’s not much to report on my life. I’m super busy, it being the end of the quarter and me graduating in only 22 days. I will have pictures of my final project online, as soon as I start working on it. I have this vision of the model in my head, and it’s going to be pretty sweet. Let’s hope it turns out that way.

Wedding Bells and Computers

14 05 2007

It was a busy day for me. I didn’t get much work done, but it was still busy. There weren’t any open computers in the either of the labs at school today. It’s probably a sign that I need to get a new MacBook Pro and install Windows and AutoCAD on it. It’s silly for me to try to fight 80 other people for a computer.

I have a lot of stuff to do in a very short amount of time this week.

Litany told me that Josh finally proposed to her this weekend. There are a lot of rocks on that ring, with a big one sitting on top. It’s very sparkly. I also missed out on a perfect Twitter post. It would have gone something like this: “Litany got engaged this weekend! How exciting is that!” That would have been a great post. What’s even more sad, she will be planning a wedding for the next 6 months, while the rest of us will be stuck in school. Good for her, okay for us, I guess. I better get invited.

I am all about blogging lately. Twitter, WordPress, Last.fm, del.icio.us and now I’m trying a “moblog” via Flickr. I’m going to snap pictures with my camera phone on the go and post them to Flickr. We’ll see how it goes, and how much my data plan will allow (5MB a month). Check it out: moblog. I am a huge nerd.

By the way, progress was made over the weekend on the little house in DAAP. Expect pictures soon.

“Excerpts from a Cat’s Twitter”
Day 983 of my captivity. My captors continue to taunt me with bizarre little dangling objects. They dine lavishly on fresh meat, while the other inmates and I are fed hash or some sort of dry nuggets. Although I make my contempt for the rations perfectly clear, I nevertheless must eat something in order to keep up my strength. The only thing that keeps me going is my dream of escape. In an attempt to disgust them, I once again vomit on the carpet.

Today I decapitated a mouse and dropped its headless body at their feet. I had hoped this would strike fear into their hearts, since it clearly demonstrates what I am capable of. However, they merely made condescending comments about what a “good little hunter” I am. There was some sort of assembly of their accomplices tonight. I was placed in solitary confinement for the duration of the event. However, I could hear the noises and smell the food. I overheard that my confinement was due to the power of “allergies.” I must learn what this means, and how to use it to my advantage.

Today I was almost successful in an attempt to assassinate one of my tormentors by weaving around his feet as he was walking. I must try this again tomorrow — but at the top of the stairs. I am convinced that the other prisoners here are flunkies and snitches. The dog receives special privileges. He is regularly released – and seems to be more than willing to return. He is obviously retarded. The bird has got to be an informant. I observe him communicate with the guards regularly. I am certain that he reports my every move. My captors have arranged protective custody for him in an elevated cell, so he is safe. For now…
